Businesses say more parking needed in the Exchange District

WINNIPEG — Businesses in the exchange district are concerned a major redevelopment is going to hurt their bottom line.

A series of parking lot and road closures has choked traffic flow and greatly reduced the amount of parking spots in the area.

More parking will be lost when work begins on James Ave. to make way for the development of the historic pumping station at the corner of James and Waterfront

Some business owners said the city could’ve done a better job consulting with them and spreading out the construction work to ease the financial impact.

The area’s city councillor has proposed re-opening a parking lot on Waterfront Dr. that is sitting vacant and exploring the possibility of using angled parking on some streets to create more spots.
