Maguder, 72, testified in his own defence at a week-long trial in April. He admitted he kept driving and did not stop to help Chipaway, but his lawyer argued there was no intent to avoid civil or criminal liability.

Court heard Maguder continued driving to a car wash in Bowness after Chipaway was hit, and eventually went to see the co-owner of the cab.

Maguder told the other cabbie he bumped something on 16th Avenue.
