Death of senior found at Saskatoon crosswalk under investigation

Police are trying to determine how a senior died following a “possible” pedestrian collision involving a vehicle in Saskatoon.

At around 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, officers were called to the intersection of 20th Street and Avenue G.

The 86-year-old pedestrian was reportedly injured and was taken to hospital. He has since passed away and an autopsy has been scheduled.

Investigators believe the elderly man was crossing the street when the driver of a truck who was making an eastbound turn, entered the crosswalk and came to a sudden stop.

Police said it was not evident whether the man was struck by the truck or was startled and fell as a result of other medical conditions.

The 61-year-old driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian.
