The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) took over the investigation, as is the case for any deaths involving children under the age of six.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Authorities are meeting with witnesses and the toddler’s father, but foul play is not expected.

There are no indications if charges will be laid.
