SiRT investigating after man found unconscious in Halifax jail cell

Nova Scotia’s police watchdog is investigating after a man arrested for being intoxicated in public was found unconscious in a jail cell.

The Serious Incident Response Team says the 47-year-old Dartmouth man was taken to hospital after he was found unconscious in his cell late Monday night and remains in grave condition.

It adds it appears his condition resulted from self-inflicted actions.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
