WINNIPEG – Walk anywhere in Winnipeg and you’ll easily find frenzied football fans.

Residents are no longer reluctant to call the Winnipeg Blue Bombers theirs. The team has won five games in a row…and counting. The streak by the Big Blue has even turned tills green.

“Just seeing the change, the winning, there’s more fans coming out shopping,” said Willie Plouffe of Royal Sports. “We’re certainly feeling that.”

The last few seasons have been sore for fans. Winnipeg has made the playoffs once in the last seven years. The Bombers won just a third of their games during that span. They now sit third in the league.

Winnipeg will try to extend its streak this Saturday in the annual Banjo Bowl against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The all-time series is tied 6-6.
