Winnipeg Jets rookies suffer loss to Calgary Flames to open Young Stars Classic

The Calgary Flames top prospects defeated the Winnipeg Jets of the future on Friday in Penticton, B.C. In the first game of the annual Young Stars Classic the Jets were handed a 4-1 defeat at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Jansen Harkins scored the only goal for the Jets in the loss.

Jamie Phillips started in goal for Winnipeg. He played the first period and a half and made several outstanding saves. He ended up stopping 21 of 22 shots. Mikhail Berdin finished the game in the Jets net and allowed the final three Flames goals.

Matthew Phillips, Andrew Mangiapane, Ryan Lomberg and Austin Carroll scored goals for Calgary.

This is the fifth time the Jets have taken part in the Young Stars Classic which is a mini-tournament to showcase the team’s rookies.

The Jets prospects have three games in the span of just four days. They’ll face the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday before they wrap up the tournament on Monday against the Edmonton Oilers.
