John Tory urges political leaders to ‘join forces’ at Toronto Housing Summit

Mayor John Tory called on political leaders to work together in tackling Canada’s housing problem at the Toronto Housing Summit on Friday morning.

More than 200 people including representatives from cities across the country gathered to discuss how to make housing more affordable.

“It actually costs us more not to act than it does to act, and I mean that both financially and socially,” said Tory.

Tory is hosting today’s summit alongside Councillor Ana Bailão, who is also the chair of Toronto’s Affordable Housing Committee.

Among those attending the summit are the mayors of Edmonton, Vancouver, Kitchener, London, Mississauga and Hamilton, as well as representatives from Ottawa and Montreal.

The summit is meant to engage all levels of government in shaping the federal government’s National Housing Strategy.
