Mayor gives former Winnipeg Jet star, Teemu Selanne key to city

WINNIPEG — It’s been decades since he’s played for the Winnipeg Jets, but on Friday Teemu Selanne received a Key to the City.

Mayor Brian Bowman presented legendary Jets hockey star Teemu Selanne with the key at the MTS Centre.

Selanne received the honour to “recognize his achievements on and off the ice in Winnipeg, his dedication to the sport of hockey, and the legacy he left in the hearts of Winnipeg hockey fans,” said Jeremy Davis with the City of Winnipeg.

In 1992, Selanne joined the Jets as a 22-year-old phenomenon,, scoring a rookie-record 76 goals and leading the NHL in scoring. He was then was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in February 1996.
