A Canadian Forces officer at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick has been charged with sexual assault, the Department of National Defence (DND) said Wednesday.

DND said in a release the charges were laid in relation to a reported sexual assault that happened at the base in either December 2010 or January 2011.

Capt. Simon Duvall has been charged with one count of sexual assault.
DND said the victim is also a member of the armed forces.

Military police spokesperson Lt. Blake Patterson, the investigation began after the assault was initially reported on June 20.
CFB Gagetown is located near Oromocto, N.B.
