Heavy rain sees residents along Campbell River bracing for possible flooding

Crews along the Campbell River are preparing for possible flooding.

Communities along the Campbell River are on flood watch Sunday as the region faces more heavy rain.

About 10 to 20 millimetres of rain are expected to fall throughout Sunday, part of a weather pattern that has caused the river to swell to higher than normal levels.

With high tides predicted over the next few days, and a so-called “King Tide” forecast for Sunday – there are concerns that homes and businesses in low-lying areas could be flooded. More than 100 property owners have been told to prepare for flooding.

“We’re definitely getting a little worried,” Krista Card, manager of Campbell River Lodge, said. “The river is right up to our bank on the back side of the property and it eventually could take over the hotel and the beer store. It’s definitely getting nerve-wracking.

“I’ve never seen it this high in the nine years I’ve been here.”
