A strong earthquake struck off the California coast early Thursday morning.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake’s epicentre was 165 kilometres off the coast of Ferndale with a shallow depth of 10 kilometres.
The tremor happened just before 7 a.m. local time.
The USGS said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.5.
According to the National Weather Service, there was no threat of a tsunami.
Social media users reported feeling the quake in San Francisco, about 400 kilometres south of Ferndale.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) reported a delay as a result of the earthquake.
Speaking to the Associated Press, a Ferndale resident told the news agency the tremor felt like a “big jolt.”
“I just felt this very huge jerk and I didn’t know what it was,” Bonnie Brower said.
Brower described to the news agency it felt like the ground was rolling, “like you were on a boat.”
There were no reports of damage or injuries as a result of the earthquake.
Thursday’s quake comes just days after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesia’s Aceh province, killing over 100 people.
