Ombudsman’s Office investigating complaint against city council

The Ombudsman’s Office is investigating after someone lodged a formal complaint against London city council.

In a letter sent to city council on Tuesday, the Ombudsman’s Office wrote the complaint alleges that a meeting regarding the relocation of city services to Citi Plaza on July 26 violated the open meeting requirements of the Municipal Act.

The complaint also alleges that council made a decision in closed session during the meeting.

This isn’t the first time this city council has drawn the attention of the Ombudsman. In late July, two complaints were filed against city council.

The first complaint alleged the City held a closed meeting to discuss the appointment of a new Integrity Commissioner, while the second complaint focused on a closed-door meeting held by council to discuss the Integrity Commissioner’s report into the affair between Mayor Matt Brown and former Deputy Mayor Maureen Cassidy.

The Ombudsman’s Office is independent of government and political parties, and its mandate is to ensure government accountability through effective oversight of the administration of government services.
