Toronto man charged after hot cup of coffee thrown at parking officer’s face

Toronto police have arrested a man accused of throwing hot coffee in the face of a parking enforcement officer over an issued ticket.

Police say the incident happened in the Yonge Street and Roslin Avenue area in North York on Monday.

An officer had issued a ticket for a vehicle parked in a “no stopping” zone, when a man got out of the car and allegedly threw a cup of hot coffee in the face of the officer.

The officer suffered first-degree burns to his cheek.

The man fled the scene following the incident but was later arrested.

Greg Sawyer, 32, of Toronto has been charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in a North York courthouse on May 11.
