OPP identify Winnipeg boy, 9, who drowned in Rushing River Provincial Park

Drowning was the cause of death of an 9-year-old Winnipeg boy who died over the weekend, according to an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) news release.

On Saturday around 9:45 p.m. police responded to reports of a missing person at Rushing River Provincial Park. OPP officers, along with the Emergency Response Team, K9 Unit, park staff and the Kenora Marine and Trails Unit conducted the search.

His body was found Sunday at approximately 1:30 a.m. He has since been identified as Kyree Bruneau, of Winnipeg.

The post mortem examination was done on Tuesday and the cause of death was deemed drowning and foul play is not suspected.

OPP Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Duggan said the boy was camping with his family for the long weekend.
