A wildfire has broken out near Highway 97 between Vernon and Kamloops and has prompted a state of emergency for the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
An evacuation order for the area has been expanded.
The highway is closed but according to DriveBC detours are available via Highway 1, Highway 97B, Highway 97A and Chase and Falkland Roads.

The fire was spotted late Wednesday afternoon.

It is burning near Paxton Valley at Monte Lake.
The blaze is 100 hectares and has prompted an evacuation of the area.
