Pearse Vujcic, a neighbour of Zlatan told Global News Simon lived with his mother at another residence but spent quite a lot of time with his father at his apartment.

“[Zlatan] was a handyman, he was very helpful and a good neighbour,” said Vujcic. “He could do lots of things but lately he couldn’t find a job.”

Vujcic, who said he knew Zlatan for over 10 years, described the scene where the father and son were found as “horrible,” but did not want to discuss specifically what he saw.

Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook told Global News the boy’s mother is aware of the situation and is said to be “completely distraught.”

Douglas-Cook said Simon’s death is being investigated as the city’s 28th homicide of the year and there are no outstanding suspects.
