Sam Sullivan, the former mayor of Vancouver, has made a triumphant return to politics, winning the seat of Vancouver-False Creek for the B.C. Liberal Party.
Sullivan had 49.8 per cent of the vote, as of 9:34 p.m. on election night. NDP candidate Matt Toner came in second, with 38.6 per cent of the vote.

Sullivan was Mayor of Vancouver from 2005 to 2008 and a city councillor from 1993 to 2005. He actually once defeated Christy Clark – winning the Non Partisan Alliance’s 2005 mayoral nomination. Since leaving municipal politics, Sullivan has become the host of a series of monthly salons in Vancouver and a professor with UBC’s School of Architecture.

NDP candidate Matt Toner has worked as a designer and writer on a number of Electronic Arts videogames, as well as launching a number of technology startups. He has also worked as an economist with the Bank of Canada and as a diplomat with the Canadian Consulate General.
