TORONTO – After Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum was arrested early Monday morning by Quebec’s anti-corruption police, news of the arrest made headlines around the world.

The arrest leaves Montreal’s City Hall in disarray as Applebaum became interim mayor  last November following the resignation of Mayor Gerald Tremblay amid allegations of corruption.

Applebaum is the second Quebec mayor to be arrested by the province’s anti-corruption unit as Gilles Vaillancourt, the former longtime mayor of Laval, was arrested last month and is facing charges of fraud and gangsterism.
