Two fishermen are credited with saving the lives of a father and daughter in a dramatic rescue in the Fraser Valley.
Bill Moore and Scott Thompson were fishing in the Vedder canal near Chilliwack on Sunday when they heard cries coming from upstream.
“What I had seen was an older fellow coming down the river and he looked a little unstable,” says Thompson. “Next thing you know, he lost his balance and I watched him go under, but we didn’t realize there was a second one.”

The second person was a 14-year-old girl, the daughter of the man struggling against the strong current.
Bill Moore didn’t hesitate, dropping his gear and sprinting down the gravel bar, first seeing the father, who wasn’t worried about himself.
“I have missed the father going by me,” says Moore. “He was yelling at me — just save my daughter, don’t worry about me, just save my daughter.”
Moore was chest deep in the frigid river when he managed to grab the girl.
“She was a handful because she was panicking and people do when they are drowning,” says Moore.
Thompson along with other fishermen rescued the father when he hit shallow water.
Father and daughter were treated for hypothermia and are said to be fine.
