UBC student sexually assaulted on campus

University RCMP are warning everyone walking on the UBC campus at night to be vigilant of their surroundings after a female student was attacked and sexually assaulted this past Saturday night.

The 19-year-old was walking alone in the 6300 block of Biological Sciences Road at about 2:45 a.m. when she was approached from behind by an unknown man. The man wrapped his arm around the woman’s waist, picking her up and leading her to a garden area, while placing his free hand up the woman’s skirt and groping her genitalia.

The woman struggled and managed to get away. Her screams caused the man to flee on foot.

Police say he is described as olive skinned, in his mid to late 20’s with an unshaven face. He is approximately 5’8″ with a thin build, and was wearing a dark blue hoodie with the hood over his head, dark pants and running shoes.

This is considered to be an isolated incident.

The young woman did not require medical attention.
