Twitter user @Rogers unfazed by ‘wrath of 1,000 Canadians’

TORONTO – Glenn Rogers of Brooklyn, N.Y. always knows when Canadians are having problems with their cellphone or Internet connections.

But Rogers does not live in Canada – the only thing keeping him in the loop north of the border his Twitter handle @Rogers.

Wednesday night, Rogers’ Twitter feed was inundated with tweets from angry customers of Canadian telecom giant Rogers Communications in the midst of a nationwide cell service blackout.

“I just got home from work and my phone started vibrating. I knew fairly quickly there was something wrong with Rogers,” the Twitter user said during an interview with Global News.

“The wrath of Canada was upon my Twitter feed.”

But Rogers remained surprisingly upbeat throughout the five-hour outage, during which he received hundreds of angry tweets chalked full of “lots of expletives.”

Due to his unaffiliated Twitter handle, Rogers says he often receives tweets about the telecom and usually knows when users are experiencing problems thanks to his feed.

“It’s clearly something that strikes a chord with people,” he said.

Despite his Twitter handle constantly being mistaken for the telecom, Rogers says he has no intention of changing his handle.
