Javed Sommers drops out of Edmonton’s Ward 6 council race

EDMONTON- And then there were 15.

The race for council in Ward 6 got a little less crowded Saturday, after candidate Javed Sommers announced he was pulling out to endorse fellow candidate Heather MacKenzie.

Sixteen people were running for council in Ward 6, which was left vacant by current councillor Jane Batty. On June 3, Batty announced she was retiring from politics.

Sommers’ announcement leaves voters 15 options when they cast their ballot Monday.

Polls are open between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
