Mayoral candidate forced to bow out of race

CALGARY- A mayoral candidate has essentially bowed out of the race—on election day.

Bruce Jackman was running for the mayor’s chair, but is a city employee. To be eligible, he would have had to take a leave absence by the Friday before nomination day, which he did not do.

As a result, he would not be eligible to become mayor if he won the election.

Jackman has since signed a declaration with the city, saying he understands that.
