TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford has a message for Toronto voters – he’s one of a kind.
“They are not going to find another Rob Ford,” the mayor told NBC’s Matt Lauer in an interview that aired Tuesday.
Ford, joined by his brother Councillor Doug Ford, spoke candidly to the Today Show hours after Toronto City Council voted to cut the mayor’s budget and strip him of much of his powers.
“Do you still want this job?” Lauer asked. “Absolutely,” Ford replied. “October 27th, let the people decide.”

On Friday the mayor was stripped of a handful of powers including emergency management duties.
All non-statutory duties have been delegated to Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly.
“We have taken the authority that council has previously given to the mayor and we’ve brought them back to council,” Kelly said Tuesday on Global’s The Morning Show. “What we have done is we have isolated ourselves procedurally from the mayor’s interference directly or improperly.”

Lauer asked Ford if he is capable and stable enough to handle an emergency situation in the city.
“I’m very fortunate that hasn’t happened,” Ford said.
The mayor insisted there are “very few isolated incidents” where he hasn’t been sober.
