The Canadian government is launching a competition to buy a new fleet of fighter jets and officials confirmed Tuesday they will also be buying an interim fleet of jets from Australia rather than Boeing.

Boeing still really wants to be friends with the Canadian government but it is not backing down on its trade challenge against Bombardier even if that means watching the government buy jets from someone else.

More than 200 federal civil servants involved in replacing Canada's aging fighter jet fleet have been forced to swear they will not discuss the project for the rest of their lives.
