The U.S. Navy has named a ship in honour of the late gay rights leader Harvey Milk, who served in the Navy for four years before he began a career in San Francisco city government.

The deadly shooting early Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, follows several incidents of violence against people at gay venues.
