Man turns himself in after serious hit-and-run

LETHBRIDGE- A 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that has left a father of two fighting for his life.

Just before 3 a.m. on Monday morning, the 45-year-old victim was riding his bike near the Stafford Drive overpass, when he was struck by a vehicle. It then sped off.

The man was airlifted to hospital in Calgary and remains in critical condition.

Following a plea by police for information in the case, a man turned himself in to a police station on Tuesday, and has since been charged. His vehicle has also been seized.

Edward James Mikla is charged with one count of failing to remain at the scene of a crash. He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Further charges are expected.
