EDMONTON – Lac La Biche RCMP have charged a 62-year-old man with mail theft after a joint investigation with Canada Post.
Officers say Brian Sopel was a self contractor to Canada Post who delivered mail from the company’s Edmonton plant to several rural post officers in northern Alberta.

After executing a search warrant on Sopel’s home, RCMP seized several stolen items including:
- 21 new cell phones
- laptops
- a tablet
- Military veteran paraphernalia
- clothing
- Consumer goods
- Storage containers owned by Canada Post
Sopel has since been charged with theft of mail and possession of articles stolen from the mail.
He is scheduled to appear in court on March 3.
