MONTREAL — According to a recent CROP poll conducted for La Presse, Premier Pauline Marois and the Parti Québécois government could be heading towards a majority government.

The poll showed the voting intentions of 1000 people.

Forty per cent of those surveyed said they would vote for Marois’s PQ government – five percentage points higher than in January.

That opens the door for a majority government for Pauline Marois if an election is held April 14. Rumours widely circulating at the National Assembly suggest an election call will come March 11, right after MNAs return from a two week break.

The increase in PQ supporters is reportedly due to previously undecided voters.

Marois is considered the best choice for premier by 30 per cent of respondents.

Opposition leader Phillippe Couillard only had 22 per cent of that vote – three percentage points lower than last month when Marois and Couillard were tied.

Support for the Coalition Avenir Québec remains steady at 16 per cent.
