Wild cheers erupted in bars across Calgary as Team Canada clinched a 1-0 victory over Team USA in the semifinals of the men’s Olympic hockey tournament.

Local bars opened early and were packed by the time the game got underway at 10 a.m. local time.
The bars were so busy some people were turned away.
“I can’t get into any place, they’re full,” one fan told Global News. “I’m still trying though.”

Another fan skipped work to take in the game and he likely wasn’t the only one.
“I’m supposed to be working now, but the Olympics come only once every four years.”

Calgarian Nick Oriold says he’s been waiting for this moment for a long time.
The win sends Canada to the gold medal round against Sweden. The final start at 5 a.m. Sunday.
Premier Alison Redford tweeted Friday afternoon bars will be allowed to open in time for the game. The province says restaurants will also be allowed to serve alcohol starting at 5 a.m.
