EDMONTON – Alberta Law Enforcement Teams (ALERT) made the largest seizure of heroin in more than five years, seizing nearly $100,000 worth of the drug from an Edmonton home.
ALERT members, along with the Edmonton Police Service and RCMP members, seized 289 grams of heroin from the southeast Edmonton home on Feb. 19.
This is the largest heroin seizure for ALERT since the fall of 2008.
Three firearms – a loaded, sawed-off shotgun, a Glock handgun that was reported stolen, and a loaded Ruger handgun – were also recovered, along with $12,000 worth of cocaine, and $40,000 in Canadian and U.S. currency.

Two vehicles were seized as proceeds of crime.
Three Edmonton men were arrested and a total of 14 drug and weapons related charges were laid against them.
Alexander Marjan,22, is charged with breach of recognizance.
Ali Madagar, 22, has been charged with careless storage of a firearm and two counts of knowingly possessing a prohibited firearm.
Simran Bedi, 22, is facing nine weapons and drug related charges.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be laid.
This seizure comes after 6.7 kilograms of heroin were seized at the Calgary International Airport by the Canada Border Services Agency and the RCMP.
Officials say heroin has not been prevalent in northern Alberta for many years.
