Winnipeg’s Centreport gets crucial water treatment plant

WINNIPEG – A new water treatment facility will be built to provide water to an inland port in Winnipeg and surrounding municipalities.

Diane Gray, the president and CEO of Centreport Canada, said the plant is crucial to the complex’s expansion.

The provincial and federal government announced funding Wednesday for the project, which is expected to be operating late next year or early 2016.

The plant will provide clean water to the municipalities of Cartier, Grey, Headingley, Portage, Rockwood, Rosser, St. Francois Xavier and to the Headingley Correctional Centre. The new treatment plant will be in Headingley.

Centreport’s 8,000 hectares of industrial land comes with access to tri-modal transportation, including three Class 1 railways — Canadian National, Canadian Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
