Flyers captain Claude Giroux reportedly arrested in Ottawa for groping cop

OTTAWA – Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux was reportedly arrested on Canada Day in Ottawa’s downtown ByWard Market after allegedly grabbing a male police officer’s buttocks.

Giroux spent the night in an Ottawa jail cell, CBC reported.

An Ottawa police spokesman said a man was taken into custody around 9:15 p.m. after a similar incident, but he wouldn’t confirm it was Giroux.

No charges will be laid, said Const. Marc Soucy.

The 26-year-old Giroux, who hails from Hearst, Ont., was expected to be released from custody on Wednesday morning.

The Flyers’ general manager Ron Hextall tweeted from the team’s account about the alleged incident.
