WINNIPEG – Just over 1,000 aboriginal flood evacuees in Manitoba are one step closer to getting a new home.
The residents of Lake St. Martin First Nation have been displaced since a flood in 2011 devastated their community.
The band, led by Chief Adrian Sinclair, has been in protracted negotiations with the federal and provincial government to find a new home on dry land.

All three sides have a tentative agreement for a new reserve near the old, chronically flooded community.
The agreement is expected to be voted on by residents of the First Nation in the fall.
It has cost almost $100 million to care for almost 2,000 aboriginal people who are still out of their homes three years after heavy flooding in Manitoba.
