A 64 year old Nelson man is dead after the float plane he was in crashed into Upper Arrow Lake Wednesday morning.
The unidentified pilot survived the crash and was taken to Arrow Lake Hospital with minor injuries.
Nelson RCMP Staff Sergeant Dan Seibel told CHBC, the plane crashed 500 metres offshore at 8:30 this morning and police were alerted by locals onshore.

He said the plane appears to have been making a landing at the time of the accident but the exact cause has not been determined.
Witness, Ray Lythgoe, told the local newspaper he heard a plane engine sputter and die and when he looked up he could see the plane going down.
“I heard the motor go dead,” Lythgoe said, “then a big splash.”
Officers have not released the name of the deceased as they are still trying to contact the next of kin.
The pilot was rescued and brought to the marina on a small boat before being treated and taken to hospital.
The plane is temporarily attached to a tugboat for the time being and remains partially submerged in the water.
