TORONTO – Former NHL enforcer and Saskatoon Blade Wade Belak has been found dead.

A spokesman with the Nashville Predators confirmed Wednesday night that Belak was found dead in Toronto.

Specific details were not immediately available.

Belak played 15 games with the Predators in the 2010-2011 season. He played 549 career games between the Leafs, Predators, Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers.

The Saskatoon native retired in March and was to take part in the CBC program “Battle of the Blades” this year.

Belak played for the Saskatoon Blades from 1992 to 1996, appearing in 211 games, scoring 11 goals, with 42 assists and 746 penalty minutes.

The Saskatoon Blades have released a statement saying the team is shocked and saddened by the news of Belak’s death.

He was drafted 12th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in 1994.

Belak was 35 years old.
