VANCOUVER – High school students might normally be outside soaking up some sunshine but some girls are enjoying the heat in other ways.

Camp Ignite, put on by several fire departments in the Lower Mainland, puts 18 teenage girls into live firefighting training.
The camp partly aims to attract women firefighters as there are only 21 females among the 800 firefighters in Vancouver’s fire department.
But more than that, organizers say it’s about teaching young women they have no limits.
“It’s teaching them that they can do anything in life, right?” said one of the instructors. “They’re going to try some things that they probably never even thought that they could do that are definitely outside of their box.”
