SASKATOON – Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) welcomed a new member this month and he’s already taking a bite out of crime.
Constable Joel Lalonde’s newest partner, Matrix, has completed training and is now a part of the police canine unit.
Matrix is a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois.
In just a few days on the job, he has assisted in the arrest of two people.

In March, Lalonde said goodbye to his former police service dog, Diego.
This seven-year-old German Shepherd passed away after a short bout with cancer.
Diego was the only SPS canine with explosive detection abilities and even checked out Mosaic Stadium prior to the 101st Grey Cup.
As a team, Lalonde and Diego helped apprehend nearly 150 suspects over five years.
