WINNIPEG – Progressive Conservative Leader Hugh McFadyen is offering a renovation tax credit of up to about $700 if voters make him premier in the Oct. 4 Manitoba election.
Homeowners would be able to claim 10.8 per cent of expenses between $1,500 and $6,500.

McFadyen’s plan is modelled on an expired federal home renovation tax break, but the Manitoba one would be permanent.
He says the modest tax credit could cost $32.5 million a year.
McFadyen says the credit will encourage people to add value to their homes at a time when the home renovation industry appears to be slowing down.
He didn’t bite on a proposal from the Chamber of Commerce to tap into Manitoba Hydro profits to bring down taxes.
