QUEBEC – Rumours are swirling that Quebec Premier Jean Charest’s second-in-command is planning to quit politics.
Nathalie Normandeau, the province’s deputy premier and natural resources minister, is expected to make the announcement this afternoon.

Charest is scheduled to attend a news conference with Normandeau in Quebec City.
Normandeau has been one of Charest’s most-trusted cabinet ministers in recent years.
She has been overseeing Quebec’s massive energy and mining development program for its north – known as the Plan Nord.
The 43-year-old Normandeau was first elected to the provincial legislature in 1998.
