2 Regina schools up for closure

The Dieppe and Haultain school communities could end up on the chopping block.

The decision to close the schools wasn’t made last tonight, but it is the first step in the process.

If the board does vote in favour of putting the schools up for closure, they will still have a chance to have their say during the public consolation process.

The two schools were recommended for closure because of their declining enrolment numbers.

The two schools now have the lowest enrolment in the public school system.

In fact Haultain School located in the heart of the Eastview neighbourhood had only 79 students enrolled last year.

The school board is hoping to have between 200 and 400 students in every elementary school, but people against the plan to cut the number of schools in favour of larger schools say the board should consider the impact that closures have on each community.
