Wayne Simmonds is in the spotlight, once again.

On Wednesday, police charged a 26-year-old man over an apparent racial incident in which a banana was thrown on the ice at a black player during an NHL pre-season game last Thursday.

Police say Chris Moorhouse of London, Ont., has been served a summons for engaging in a prohibited activity under the provincial trespassing act.

In an unrelated incident, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is also calling for Simmonds to apologize for uttering a slur towards Sean Avery of the New York Rangers.

Simmonds was not suspended by the league for an anti-gay remark made during a pre-season game Monday night that Avery confirmed and Simmonds didn’t deny saying.
