SASKATOON – An inmate took another hostage for nearly an hour on Wednesday at Saskatoon’s Regional Psychiatric Centre.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says staff acted quickly and professionally by intervening and controlling the situation.

Following negotiations, the incident ended peacefully around 3:20 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Saskatoon police will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The centre is a multi-level psychiatric hospital on Central Avenue which provides mental health treatment and 24-hour medical care to individuals from the federal and provincial justice systems.
