VANCOUVER – Questions are beginning to surface about whether Peter DeGroot, the subject of an intense police manhunt for the past four days, is anywhere near the small B.C. community of Slocan.
Heavily armed and camouflaged police have combed through the areas where has was last seen after a confrontation that erupted into a shootout with officers on Thursday.

They have not been able to find any sign of DeGroot, who is described as an outdoorsman and is believed to be heavily armed.
DeGroot also has not responded to any requests from police to get in touch.
Now, those who know him personally say it’s time for DeGroot to turn himself in.
“If we’re going to ever hope to bring him in, in a safe way, I think somebody with compassion has to stand in this place and reach out to where he is,” said resident Rob Udall.
