WINNIPEG — Dozens gathered at Osborne Street and River Avenue for a vigil for 17-year-old Leelah Alcorn.
The Ohio teen left a suicide note saying that she struggled to gain her parent’s acceptance as a transgender teen. She took her own life on Dec. 28.

A Winnipeg High School group organized the 4 p.m. vigil and asked people to bring candles to light in her honour.
Gatherings across North America have been organized to remember the teen and to raise support and acceptance for transgender people.
