TORONTO – A slim majority of Torontonians support a fourth stop on the proposed Scarborough subway, according to a new poll released Monday.
The survey conducted by Mainstreet Technologies finds 53 per cent back a fourth stop on the new east-end subway extension, despite city council having voted last year to build only three stops.
The 2,320 respondents polled were asked if they would approve or disapprove a four stop subway for an additional cost of $100-150 million.
Scarborough city councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker brought up the idea of building an extra stop in December, however Toronto Mayor John Tory quickly nixed the idea earlier this month saying he’d prefer to stick with the original plan.

Those polled in Scarborough support the idea of creating another stop at 67 per cent support with the lowest in Etobicoke and Downtown at 45 per cent.
Meanwhile, the poll also showed Tory’s popularity remains high with an approval rating of 73 per cent compared to City Council at 51 per cent and Torontonians view of their local councillor at 61 per cent.
The rating for Mayor Tory’s decision to study garbage privatization instead of moving forward immediately was split with 43 per cent approval, 42 disapproval and 14 per cent not sure.

The Mainstreet Technologies poll was conducted on January 11 with a margin of error of +/- 2.03 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
