REGINA – Saskatchewan’s Opposition says the government is ignoring a seniors care crisis in the province.

NDP health critic Danielle Chartier says staff shortages are contributing to poor care in homes that include Santa Maria Citizens Home in Regina.

The facility came under fire when employees were suspended after assault allegations led police to conduct a criminal investigation.

In a separate case, the ombudsman is investigating the death of a resident whose family said she was neglected to the point of becoming emaciated.

Chartier says nothing seems to have changed at Santa Maria since complaints were brought forward.

The Opposition has been bringing focusing on cases of alleged seniors neglect at various homes since November.
