MONTREAL — Quebec’s education minister, Yves Bolduc, has appointed Fabienne Bouchard to lead an independent investigation into the Quebec City student strip search.
The controversial incident took place at Neufchatel High School when a 15-year-old student was strip-searched in February after school officials suspected she may have been selling drugs.

Bouchard is a former Crown prosecutor. According to Le Journal de Quebec, she will be compensated approximately $8,000 to investigate and make recommendations related to strip searches in secondary schools in the province.

The De la Capitale School Board has clarified certain elements of the “intervention,” defending school administrators’ right to conduct a strip search, saying they followed guidelines created by the province’s education ministry and published in collaboration with Quebec provincial police and Canada’s National Crime Prevention Strategy (NCPS).
