REGINA – The Saskatchewan government says while the province has the highest rate of new HIV cases in Canada, it can’t be afraid to see the number go even higher.
Health Minister Don McMorris says there are still people who don’t know they are infected, but who need to learn their status.

He says it’s important for those people to get treated.
To that end, the province has produced a series of new Internet videos pushing people to know their status.

The province is also moving toward finger prick testing and entering communities that McMorris says for years no one was properly monitoring.
The No. 1 way people are contracting the virus is overwhelmingly through injection drug use, with nearly half of the new cases found in Saskatoon.
